The following is far from a complete list of our immigrant ancestors, but these selected individuals have been chosen to show a variety of ancestors, and also include those for whom there is sufficient information available. Many lineages do not allow tracing back far enough to know the immigrant ancestor's story. For others, we may know the individual's name and country of origin but little else.

In the previous paragraph, I originally typed the word "diversity" rather than "variety," but that didn't seem quite right; you will notice that most of our ancestors came from the United Kingdom. Having origins in the UK is not surprising, considering the historical tendencies of the time. Prior to 1790, British immigrants to the colonies were granted automatic naturalization and citizenship.
